The Haitian and Dominican social movements are crying out in the face of the plight of the mines they represent. July 22 is International Day for the Elimination of Industrial Mining. The binational forum on mining and climate change, on the occasion of this international day, will warn everyone about the consequences of mining on the island that threaten the forests, the springs, the sovereignty in matters of food. We invite all progressive organizations in both countries; Ecologists, peasant federations, and all conscious citizens have been thinking about the dramatic balance sheet of mining activities on our island since 1492. Since then they have been constantly hiding the devastation behind a series of dlololo-manipulation words such as «modernization» and "Development" where they promise prosperity and well-being for all. What we find on the contrary is environmental destruction, climate instability, food insecurity and famine.
